Times photo Wayne Martin Race for oral hygiene By Farida Master IT LOOKS like the suburb of Bot- any has enough stock of Colgate toothpaste to keep it going for a couple of years. The Great Colgate Carton Race is a competition for schools where they can win prizes by collecting Colgate cartons. The more they col- lect the more prizes they can win. The students of Botany Downs Primary School were recently spot- ted celebrating the cool collection of $3000. They won third prize for collect- ing 700 cartons of Colgate from May 31 to August 31. Teacher Paula Pearce co-ordi- nated the collection and says: “I’m so proud of our school community who all pitched in and bought Col- gate, sometimes probably more than they needed. “I think they have stockpiles for years now. “A special mention goes to the students in my classroom, who dili- gently counted all the cartons we received. “We learnt so much about big numbers.” Botany Downs Primary wasn’t the only school in the area that won a prize. Willowbank School came first with more than 1500 cartons. While this may not necessarily mean these suburbs have the clean- est teeth, participating in the car- ton collection could be a good start to brushing up on oral hygiene.
