Common causes include bending and twisting through sustained or repeated movements, such as lifting heavy weights at the gym, pulling weeds out of the garden, moving heavy objects or furniture around the house, or even prolonged sitting in the office with poor posture. Excessive overloading of lumbar spine structures in vulnerable positions or postures is the key root of the problem. Approximately 60% of the general population will experience lower back pain at some stage of their lives, 90% of which will recover within two months, providing they receive adequate care. Receiving adequate advice and management within the earliest stages of recovery is the most effec- tive form of treatment. We advise to stay as active as pain allows, avoid aggravating movements with good posture, avoid complete rest, and seek assessment by a medical professional as soon as possible. Following assessment, effective treatment can start with physiotherapy input for advice, hands-on therapy and a tailored exercise programme imple- mented over several weeks to address your individ- ual concerns. We also communicate with numerous local medi- cal practices and recommend a follow up with your family doctor to organise suitable pain medication where necessary. Physio Moves is a physiotherapy clinic conveniently located at Botany Town Centre. We have ample mall parking directly outside our clinic to allow for your ease of access. After returning on Tuesday morning, it had disappeared, Ms Miller suspecting it had been washed away by the tide. This wasn’t the first seal Ms Miller has seen recently. Ms Miller, along with other locals who had stopped to watch, saw one swimming up the estuary a couple of weeks ago. However, she says it looked like a much bigger one and most likely not the pup she saw on Buckland’s Beach. There have been numerous other seal sightings in recent months. In early August, two East Aucklanders spotted a seal pup while on a walk along Howick Beach. On September 3, two seals came ashore in Auckland, one of them a leopard seal on Kohimarama Beach and the other, a fur seal, turned up at Middlemore Hospital. The Department of Conservation has said although it is normal to see seals in and out of the water, it is unusual to see them in this area. Seal numbers in Auckland tend to increase in winter months and as mother seals often leave their pups alone while they find food, the pups can often find their way to shore. Business success celebrated Three south-east companies are in the finals of the Westpac Auckland Business Awards 2015 - South. Access equipment hire company UP2IT Access Hire, East Tamaki, is in the running for the Best Emerging Business category. Beachlands-based design and build company Palladium Homes is one of five finalists for the Excellence in Strategy and Planning category. Legal services company The Conveyancing Shop, with bases in Botany, Epsom, Pukekohe and Takapuna, is vying for the Excellence in Business Leadership category. Michael Barnett, chief executive of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce which hosts the Super City-wide awards says a rich mix of vital success factors that enhance business capability are pinpointed through the awards. “ The awards are good for business,” he says. “ They provide a pipeline of success. Auckland businesses are responding to the opportunity by participating in a rewarding process of self-reflection and self-improvement through facilitation, benchmarking with peers and increased profile and exposure across Auckland’s business sectors.” The Chamber is partnered by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED). It is chief executive Brett O’Riley who says the awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the successes of the local businesses that are helping Auckland’s economy grow. The South gala dinner and awards ceremony is on October 8 at the Vodafone Events Centre, Manukau.
