6 --- Howick and Botany Times, Wednesday, October 24, 2012 www.times.co.nz 121289 By Chris Harrowell DAVE Woodfeld is a businessman who knows the importance of being able to turn heads. His theme song should be Jeff Beck’s Hi Ho Silver Lining. The managing director of Signwise Auckland, in Penrose, has had his company car decked out in a giant sticker that makes the vehicle look as though it’s been covered in chrome. The material is manufactured overseas and took two days to apply to the company’s 2010-model Holden Clubsport R8. The work was completed by Sign- wise staff members Haroon Ali, Matt Wilson, Jacob Mancer, Anthony Lu, Des Boyd and Keith Karsten. The Holden is among the frst vehicles in New Zealand to be coated in mirror chrome. Mr Woodfeld’s company, which he’s run since 2003, specialises in creating a wide range of signage for commercial customers and corporate rebranding. Among the jobs his team has car- ried out in East Auckland in recent months are two light boxes and other signage at Get Cut Hair in Botany Junction, and a new plinth sign at Botany Honda Motorcycles in East Tamaki. “We work all over New Zealand and have done jobs in Australia and Fiji,” says the 40-year-old father-of- three. “With the car I just wanted to turn heads and get people to see the com- pany brand. “I also wanted to see how it looks on a vehicle and it’s something new. I’m delighted with it. “It’s always a bit risky when some- thing is brand new, and it’s such an in-your-face product. We always try to do something cool with the car, because the people see me and get to know us and the vehicle.” Mr Woodfeld’s previous com- pany vehicle was a black Ford Falcon XR6. He had stickers attached to it to make it resemble a competitor in the Australian V8 Supercars motor sport series. As well as seeing the silver Holden on roads around the super-city, the public has the chance to see it at the upcoming Big Boys Toys show, held at ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, on November 18-20. Mr Woodfeld says having a vehi- cle that stands out as much as his does is a vital part of getting his busi- ness known. “That’s very important,” he says. “Part of my job is to generate busi- ness and the car is something people get to know. “They come to know me as ‘Dave, the shiny car guy’.” And it's hi ho silver lining Signwise Auckland managing director Dave Wood eld is happy to let his silver company car help raise the business's pro le. Times photo Wayne Martin By Chris Harrowell A TEENAGE motorist is likely to be charged by police after he lost control of his car and crashed into a house. The 17-year-old was arrested at the scene of the accident in Dannemora last Thursday after driving o the road on Middle eld Drive shortly before 7pm. His Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution vehicle veered onto the footpath and smashed through a resident's front fence before driving into the living room of the house next door. The property's occupants were home at the time and were uninjured, as was the driver of the Mitsubishi. Asha Hira lives next door to the house the motorist crashed into. "I heard a car hooning past and then a bang," she told the Times. "I looked out the upstairs window and saw the street sign lying in the middle of the road. "I went outside and saw my fence on the ground and then saw my neighbour's house and thought what the heck has just happened? "I'm a bit annoyed, but I feel sorry for my neighbours, as they only moved in a few months ago." Senior sergeant Laurie Culpan, of Counties Manukau East Police, says the teenage driver was arrested at the scene of the collision and later released. He's likely to be summonsed to appear in court on driving-related charges. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. "It is imperative people drive to the conditions and environment of the road," Mr Culpan says. "This was a residential area and people need to keep their speed down."
