And what a Friday it was. From the moment cars turned from Ridge Rd into Picton Street a festive atmosphere prevailed. Red and yellow bal- loons festooned the street and what started as brisk daytime trading snowballed to evening excitement as the street was closed to traffc and families began pouring into the vil- lage. Bands and buskers added to the razzle dazzle, the Christmas lights came on and patrons in a party mood soon packed out bars and eateries. The new Gazebo atop Basalt opened for the frst time and plenty of people made merry in the spirit of the night. At Total Focus Property Ltd, everyone wanted to guess how many jellybeans were in the jar. Kelsey Shearer came closest to the 1040 with her guess of 1001 and took home the jellybeans. Then, everyone who gave a gold coin donation at Total Focus for Kidney Kids went into a draw for a signed hat and ball from Jonah Lomu. The coveted prize went to Aimee Gallagher of Pakuranga. Yet again, this was a coup for the Howick Village Busi- ness Association, retailers, performers, local residents and visitors who came to town, went ‘mad’ and had the time of their lives right up until mid- night. All that’s left to be said is, “Roll on Christmas!”
