Spreading the task of present buying across a few weeks will help the pocket in many cases but remember, wrapping and labelling can take more time than one imagines so where possible ask for purchases to be gift-wrapped. If this is not possible, try to wrap a few gifts each night and place them carefully in a clean carton so they aren't squashed in anyway and wrapping remains in pristine condition. Start early and there'll be no panic at the last minute. In between all the festive preparations -- food buying, tree decorating, present wrapping, holiday bookings and, yes, house cleaning, take time out to attend carol singing, Christmas shows, church services and other festive celebrations to calm the soul and highlight the real reason for Christmas. One that should please the whole family is the Pakuranga Choral Society's Colours of Christmas concert at All Saints Anglican Church, Howick, this Sunday (December 2) at 2pm. (Tickets at the door -- adults $25; seniors $20 and students $10). Instrumentalists from Macleans College will also take part, there'll be communal carol singing and refreshments including traditional fruit mince pies and mulled wine. Of course, this is just one of numerous Christmas events that help make the season merry. So, here's hoping these comprehensive Christmas supplements will help make the lead up to the big day, both easy and fun for readers -- enjoy!
