Last month, the Times reported on rubbish repeatedly dumped in front of Somerville Kindergarten, Meadowland. Illegally dumped rubbish costs ratepayers millions each year in removal charges, says the Auckland Council. If caught, o enders can be ned $100 for a rst o ence and up to $400 for a subsequent one within a 365-day period. The council can prosecute under the Litter Act for more serious o ences, with a maximum penalty upon conviction of $30,000.
