It’s run in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Newmarket, as a fundraiser for children’s charities and to showcase designers’ work. Charities benefting this year are Ronald McDonald House, KidsCan and Garden to Table. The inaugural 2011 festival attracted more than 1000 visitors including many from other parts of the country, such as Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Canterbury. This year’s Fest will include daily bus tours which will visit a carefully-selected range of gardens catering for a wide range of interests. The tours will begin and fnish at Auckland’s historic home, Highwic, Newmarket. Numbers are limited for the tours which will include lunch and refreshments as well as a tour of Highwic’s heritage garden which is cared for by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. n Tickets for the festival are on sale at www.iticket. co.nz/events/2013/nov/ auckland-garden-designfest and at Palmers Gardenworld and Palmers Planet Stores throughout Auckland.
