More than 15,000 cubic metres of earth has been moved and ground works such as drainage road foundations are well under way. Project manager Matt Crawford says people will be able to see visible evidence in construction early in the New Year when the apartments start to emerge above the trees and shrubs at the front of the Chapel Road site. Matt, born, raised and schooled in Howick, is delighted to be involved with the project. "It's great to be able to help provide for the future of Howick residents and also to be able to employ Howick people during the construction stage of this project. At present there are about 60 sta , including apprentices, onsite now. "That will grow to around 200 at the peak of construction, with another 100 or so involved in providing materials and prefabricated items for the project. "We use local contractors when we can. At the moment we are looking for carpenters and construction personnel." Matt is also quick to thank the site's neighbours. "They've been great from the time the concept was oated right through until now," he says.
